Mentor, CUBE and SCORE Chapel Hill
Alan Fenwick is a mentor to teams at the CUBE, the social innovation incubator at the UNC Campus Y. He brings more than four decades of business experience and has been mentoring startups for more than 10 years through SCORE, a national network of business mentors who help small businesses get off the ground and achieve their goals. Fenwick has been integrated into multiple entrepreneurial initiatives at UNC-Chapel Hill. He has served as a venture coach to students in Launching the Venture, a course taught at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and has served as a judge, advising startups competing in the annual Carolina Challenge.
In Durham, Fenwick mentors students in the Fast Entrepreneur course at Durham Technical Community College, guiding students toward the development of strong business plans. Across the Triangle, startups that have received his mentoring support rave about him, and with good reason. He has more than 40 years of business experience in project management, strategic planning, domestic and international sales and marketing, mergers and acquisitions, new venture analysis, contracts and general management. He applies that experience to the CUBE startup teams, diving right in and pinpointing exactly the right questions to ask, bringing up concerns and viewpoints that are truly outside-the-box thinking. He challenges startups with question after question and patiently takes the time to assess the teams’ business concepts and goals to fully understand their issues.
