Lee Buck

Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network

Lee Buck is an Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network North Carolina entrepreneur-in-residence. He is the founder of Blue Bright Ventures LLC, which invests in early-stage technology companies in the southeast. He is also a partner in LaunchBox Digital, an early-stage technology accelerator, and a mentor and advisor to area entrepreneurs.

Prior to his investment activities, Buck built a succession of software companies that anticipated and benefited from successive waves of technology disruption. Most recently, he was the co-founder and chief technology officer of Near-Time. Near-Time enables organizations to leverage Web 2.0 technologies to build more dynamic interactive relationships with customers, partners and other stakeholders. Previously, Buck was the co-founder and chief technology officer of Extensibility, Inc., a leading provider of XML solutions, which as acquired by TIBCO Software, Inc. After the acquisition, he served as TIBCO’s vice president and chief scientist for XML technologies. Buck is a recognized authority on XML and schema and has helped shape a number of Internet standards by serving on committees such as the W3C’s XML Schema Working Group.

Prior to Extensibility, Buck founded Software Designs Unlimited, helping clients such as National Geographic Society, Simon & Schuster and McGraw Hill bring educational and informational resources to computers via CD-ROMs. He was also an award-winning author of an AppleScript Rapid Application Development tool bundled by Apple Computer.
