Lou Anne Crumpler
State Director, No Kid Hungry North Carolina
Lou Anne Crumpler is the state director of No Kid Hungry North Carolina, a non-profit that has partnered with the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HPDP). No Kid Hungry helps expand access to federal nutrition programs, including School Breakfast and Summer Meals to reduce hunger in North Carolina children. The HPDP-No Kid Hungry North Carolina partnership will increase HPDP’s capacity for research related to improving nutrition for school-aged children. The partnership has led to several research projects, such as HPDP’s NOURISH program that works to promote healthy eating habits among children in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. As part of its educational efforts with families in the state, HPDP has used the Cooking Matters curriculum, which is the national nutrition education program of No Kid Hungry that teaches families how to shop and prepare healthy foods on a budget.
