Can ugly produce save the world?
How one company is trying rescue forgotten food and solve hunger at the same time
Evan Lutz: CEO and Co-Founder of Hungry Harvest
Hungry Harvest is a company dedicated to repurposing “ugly food” into subscription boxes that can be delivered to people’s homes. Founded in a dorm basement by then college senior, Evan Lutz, the company has gone on to pitch and receive funding from Shark Tank and has grown from serving just the greater Baltimore area to nine states.
Together, they have already reduced over 10 million pounds of food from going to landfills and provided access to over 850,000 pounds of produce through reduced-cost markets and donations to people in need. And they’re just getting started.
