INNOVATE CAROLINA NETWORK FORUM Carolina Next: Innovations for Public Good

November 20, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Register here.

In 2017, UNC-Chapel Hill launched “The Blueprint for Next,” the University’s overarching strategic framework with two core strategies – “Of the Public, for the Public” and “Innovation Made Fundamental.” Join Provost Bob Blouin and Vice Chancellor Judith Cone at this month’s Innovate Carolina Network Forum to brainstorm together how the Innovate Carolina Network of partners can work to make sure these two core strategies are fully realized through our programs.

Overview: Carolina Next

Provost Blouin will discuss the Carolina Next strategic plan.

Strategic Initiative Snapshot: Benefit Society

Vice Chancellor Cone will discuss the goals, strategy and plans for the “Benefit Society” initiative, which she is spearheading in collaboration with other University leaders as one of the eight initiatives of Carolina Next. This team will look at how UNC-Chapel Hill is uniquely positioned to drive innovation and economic and social development for the state through results-driven research, partnerships with businesses, nonprofits, and government to translate discoveries into practical applications and public use and community engagement that leads to innovative solutions for improving lives.

Design Sprint: Brainstorming

Next, network forum attendees will follow IDEO’s brainstorming rules to answer the following questions: 1. How will we know if the “Benefit Society” initiative has succeeded? 2. What strategies do we need to employ in order to reach the economic and social impact we desire?

While all of us have been part of brainstorming exercises in the past, IDEO’s rules create a simple and effective strategy for generating many creative ideas. Come join us so you can strengthen brainstorming sessions the next time you facilitate one.
