UNC’s second-annual Makeathon is a creative, cross-campus competition which accelerates innovative ideas into physical and digital prototypes that promote positive social impact in just two weeks. Undergraduate or graduate students form academically diverse teams of 3-5 members and compete in one of four tracks: early or late-stage digital product development, or early or late-stage physical product development. Competing in the Makeathon grants participants special access to on-campus maker spaces, app labs, workshops, and expert mentors to design, reiterate, and enhance their products, business models, and pitches. In addition to their prototypes, students will also build a network of peers and community members who are skilled in innovating, making, and entrepreneurship, which will serve them well beyond the competition. The Makeathon starts on January 26th and culminates in a final pitch event on February 9th where expert judges are invited to evaluate and provide feedback to teams.
