Director, Carolina Union
Crystal King is the director of the Carolina Union. She is responsible for the management of the Carolina Union organization and the operation of the Frank Porter Graham Student Union Building. She serves as the visionary of the Carolina Union as it builds and supports community through the provision of programs, activities, student organization support, services and facilities. Her portfolio also includes the Student Activities Office, Carolina Leadership Development Office, the Student Activities Fund Office and Student Government.
Previously, King served as the associate executive director of university unions at the University of Texas at Austin and brings a wealth of experience working with student union operations and student activities to Carolina. She was directly responsible for managing the building operations of four student-life facilities. Other positions she held on the University of Texas campus included serving as director of the Student Activity Center, associate director of student programs and assistant director of student programs. She is certified as a LEED green associate and has substantial experience with planning and executing facility renovations. While in her role as the director of the Student Activity Center, she managed a $68 million construction project for a 149,000-square-foot University Unions facility.
She is a native of Tennessee and received her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Memphis. She received her master’s degree in college and university student personnel administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
