Jason Doherty has worked with KickStart Venture Services since 2014 through a collaborative agreement with the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, where Jason also directs the Startup Consulting Program, providing program oversight and mentorship to UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, students, entrepreneurs and startups. In this role, he manages teams of MBA students who serve as consultants to University researchers. The students provide assistance in evaluating the commercial potential of high-impact technologies and offer guidance on commercialization through licensing and new venture creation.
Jason is also a clinical assistant professor at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he teaches courses in technology commercialization and entrepreneurship and serves as the co-prinicipal investigator for the Technology Commercialization Carolina program. Prior to his return to Carolina, Jason directed the technology commercialization team at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center in Louisiana. There he supported university spinouts and other technology startups in biotechnology, clean technology and others fields. Jason is also a trained life scientist with over a decade of life sciences research experience in academic and federal labs and more than five years of experience in technology commercialization and entrepreneurship. As a business incubation professional, Jason has provided technical assistance to more than 100 researchers and entrepreneurs and a variety of support services for more than 50 early-stage ventures. Jason received his PhD in molecular and cellular pathology from UNC-Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from NC State University.
