Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Administration, UNC School of Media and Journalism
Louise Spieler is the senior associate dean for strategy and administration in the UNC School of Media and Journalism. She works closely with the school’s senior academic officers and key administrative staff to ensure optimal operation of the school. She also incubates and implements strategic initiatives as directed by the dean.
In addition, Spieler leads global activities, professional education and career services. She also coordinates international partnerships with universities in Brisbane, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, London, Pamplona, Paris and Santiago. Prior to 2014, she managed the school’s e-learning programs, including launching the online MA in Technology and Communication. Spieler serves on the administrative board of The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education, the International Affairs Advisory Committee and the Provost Committee on Inclusive Excellence and Diversity.
Spieler joined the school in 2004. Previously, she held senior management positions with national trade and professional associations, including the Council of State Governments in Lexington, Ky. She also co-owned The News-Record, the county newspaper in Marshall, NC.
She received her master’s degree from the University of Maryland and her bachelor’s degree from UNC-Chapel Hill.
