Assistant Dean for Innovation and Strategy, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy
Roy Zwahlen is the assistant dean for innovation and strategy at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and the Eshelman Institute for Innovation. Zwahlen is responsible for assisting the dean in formulating, interpreting and implementing policy with a special focus on commercialization initiatives across the school.
Before joining the school, Zwahlen served as associate counsel and director of technology transfer at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization. As associate counsel, he focused on legal and policy issues in the areas of intellectual property, technology transfer, public health and economic development with an emphasis on supporting BIO’s international endeavors. As director of technology transfer, he developed and implemented BIO’s university/industry collaboration strategy, which included facilitating high-level policy discussions and collaborations across the spectrum. Prior to his role at BIO, Zwahlen served as a magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Zwahlen has a JD from the George Mason School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brigham Young University.
