University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill associate professor Flavio Frohlich, PhD, is on a mission to bring together people, ideas and resources to accelerate the development of novel diagnostics and treatments for psychiatric and neurological disorders. His lab, the Frohlich Lab, is working on stimulation technology that has the potential to revolutionize psychiatry by helping millions of people with depression who experience debilitating symptoms despite receiving the type of care that’s available today. Understanding the mechanism of action of such non-invasive brain stimulation will help develop targeted, personalized, side-effect free treatments for psychiatric disorders.

Frohlich worked with UNC’s Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) team to found Pulvinar Neuro, a thriving neurotechnology startup company that has raised more than $1 million in non-dilutive funding. The support from OTC is helping to accelerate the science required for the development of this technology.
