Organization Description
The Chancellorâs Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship works to strengthen UNCâs entrepreneurship ecosystem to meet the needs of faculty, students, staff, and community members as they translate their novel ideas into practical benefit for society. The Innovation & Entrepreneurship office is responsible for overseeing campus-wide implementation of the Universityâs Strategic Roadmap to accelerate innovation. This office is also the primary communication vehicle for the campus, raising awareness of UNC innovations and innovators.
Position Description
The Communications Intern in the Chancellorâs Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is a time-limited (7-9 month) temporary position for a current UNC student to assist with communication development. The work will include:
â¢Coordinating and leading a student-focused, cross-campus communications campaign for UNC innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives. This will entail developing campus newsletters, community advertising, and social media campaigns that draw on UNCâs broad network of on- and off-campus partners in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.
â¢Developing, managing, and editing an innovation and entrepreneurship blog on innovate.unc.edu which includes stories about local startups, events, and resources. This blog will be multidisciplinary and include short- and long-form journalism, photography, and video footage. It will also feature stories written by leading figures in innovation and entrepreneurship at UNC.
â¢Maintaining and updating content for the web presence of the Chancellorâs Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, including innovate.unc.edu, facebook.com/innovateunc, twitter.com/innovateunc, and the Innovate@Carolina newsletter.
â¢Leading functional assessment of the Innovate@Carolina Website, particularly with students in mind; evaluating usefulness and necessary changes to the GET INVOLVED resource section; identification of campus websites to propose integration of the GET INVOLVED.
The position will report to the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
⢠Extensive social-networking experience (Facebook, Twitter, Instragram, YouTube marketing campaigns).
⢠Newsletter design, writing, and marketing experience.
⢠Experience with marketing campaigns on UNC campus.
⢠Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
⢠Ability to interact in a professional manner with a wide variety of people. ⢠Ability to attend innovation and entrepreneurship events in Triangle.
