Grab a free lunch with Venture for America on Thursday, Sept. 26 to get a jump on your career

Interested in working at a startup, but not sure where to start? Looking for a community of like-minded entrepreneurs to learn and grow with? Searching for resources to help you build a company of your own? If these questions sound relevant to your goals, an upcoming lunch with Venture for America will provide you with insight on a fellowship program that fits your needs.

Innovate Carolina and the Kenan-Flagler Business School Entrepreneurship Center will co-host an informational lunch with a representative from Venture for America on Thursday, September 26 for students interested in learning how to pitch themselves to startups. Venture for America is a fellowship program that places recent graduates at startups in cities with emerging entrepreneurial ecosystems, forging a community of entrepreneurs committed to building companies that matter.

VFA Talent Manager Winston Law will share advice on how to network and find opportunities that align with your skill set in the world of entrepreneurship. Law will be joined by several Carolina grads currently working at startups in Detroit, Cleveland, and Birmingham in roles they landed through VFA.

“This lunch session is a great opportunity to learn tips and tricks to help you land any startup job,” says Kimi Yingling, student engagement and events manager at Innovate Carolina, the University-wide initiative for innovation and entrepreneurship. “Students wanting more information about Venture for America should also attend to get the inside scoop on VFA from one of their own representatives. It’s never too early to start exploring your options after graduation. Juniors and seniors should absolutely stop by and learn more about this amazing two-year fellowship program that has opened many doors for Carolina graduates.”

Ana Soule shares insights she's learned with her startup the Phoenyx Project, which gives new life to vinyl billboards that would otherwise end up in the dump.

Following the September VFA lunch, Venture for America CEO Amy Nelson will give the keynote at the Carolina Challenge Pitch Party on Tuesday, Nov. 7. The Pitch Party is the premiere cross-campus venture competition at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dozens of student teams pitch their ideas to over 250 judges in hopes of winning prize money to fund their ventures.

Sign up to meet with VFA representatives at the Sept. 26 lunch, then make plans to hear CEO Amy Nelson speak at the Pitch Party in October. Both are great opportunities to plug into the entrepreneurial opportunities available through Innovate Carolina and discover what being part of a startup is all about.
