Scheduled for April 24, this event will witness visionary UNC student entrepreneurs presenting their pitches live in front of a distinguished panel of judges and a live audience. More than just a competition, this event is a celebration of the vibrant spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship that permeates our university community. The Joan & Chester Luby Charitable Trust serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Lubys, whose dedication to innovation continues to inspire and drive positive change. Established with the mission to support and nurture the entrepreneurial dreams of college students in the U.S., the trust plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of innovation that extends far beyond the confines of our campus.

Reflecting on their commitment to innovation, Chester Luby remarked, “We recognized the growing emphasis on entrepreneurship in educational institutions and knew we wanted to contribute to this movement. America’s strength lies in its innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.”

The entrepreneurial journey of the Lubys underscores their dedication to innovation. Chester Luby, a graduate of the University of Chicago and Yale Law School, began his career in the automotive industry, where he managed multiple dealerships and established two insurance companies aimed at supporting customers with their vehicle purchases at their dealerships. Joan Luby, with degrees from NYU and the Pratt Institute, carved her own path as a professional artist, known for her signature geometric prismatic style.
