It didn’t take long for Kenny Barone and Tyler Trocinski to make a habit out of visiting Jordan Lake to explore and watch the sunset after starting school at UNC-Chapel Hill.
But it wasn’t until last October when they stumbled upon an oasis of tree trunks, a carefully positioned book of poems and a perfect view of the sunset, that they felt inspired to explore technology that could lead them to other special spaces.
“We’re trying to bridge the gap between location discovery and social media,” Trocinski said.
SP0T aims to bring the personalities of special places to its users, creating “digital guestbooks,” which contain location-specific content at each spot. Once you visit the destination, whether it be a secret bar or the best place to watch the sunset, you gain access to leave your own commentary.
