COVID-19 Wastewater Surveillance

What Does the Future Hold?

This presentation will provide an update on a statewide wastewater surveillance program that has been built in collaboration with NC Department of Health and Human Services, the US Centers for Disease Control, and academic and state agency partners. Through this program, researchers are tracking novel coronavirus outbreaks across North Carolina, gaining insight that testing individuals does not offer. Preliminary results have shown that by using wastewater, researchers can identify COVID-19 hot spots five to seven days before they are reflected by clinical testing results.
