Cullen Walsh

Cullen Walsh is a 5th year PhD candidate in the chemistry department specializing in nanomaterials, semiconductors, and ultrafast lasers. His research in the lab of Professor James Cahoon explores how nanoscale structures affect the electrical and optical properties of ultra-thin semiconductors. His work has also contributed to the NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate through a NC Space Grant graduate research fellowship. Outside of the lab, Cullen has a passion for science communication and is a news reporter for the Materials Research Society and MRS Bulletin. Cullen is also a co-organizer of the UNC STEM graduate student product development competition, Sci-athon, as well as the regional science writing conference, ComSciCon-Triangle. As a Venture Catalyst Fellow, he is excited to gain invaluable first-hand experience collaborating with entrepreneurs and business executives and looks forward to developing skills in market research and product development that he can use throughout his career.
