Ji Eun Kim, PhD
Ji Eun Kim joined the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) at UNC Chapel Hill in May 2023. In her current role at OTC at UNC Chapel Hill, Ji Eun supports IP evaluation, marketing, and commercialization efforts. She frequently collaborates with inventors from various departments in the College of Medicine, helping them navigate the commercialization process and assess the commercial potential of their inventions. Ji Eun’s academic background and previous experience in technology commercialization make her well-equipped for her responsibilities at OTC at UNC Chapel Hill.
Ji Eun holds a B.S. in Human Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. For her Ph.D. thesis project, she studied the effect of calcium signaling on estrogen-regulated transcription and the death pathway in cancer cells triggered by a novel small molecule compound. While finishing graduate school, Ji Eun interned as a commercialization analyst at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After her Ph.D., Ji Eun joined OTM at the University of Illinois at Chicago as a Technology commercialization fellow and received training in university technology transfer and business development skills.
