Natalie Hewitt Valentin
Natalie graduated from Oakwood University in Huntsville, AL with her degree in biology. She is currently a PhD candidate in pharmacology at UNC-Chapel Hill. Natalie is currently conducting research on disease causing mutations in heterotrimeric G proteins. She aims to comprehensively characterize structural and functional differences between disease causing mutations and routinely uses techniques such as protein expression, protein purification, live cell-based assays, tissue culture, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), fluorescence spectroscopy and bioluminescence.
Natalie is also heavily involved in expanding industry skills by obtaining certificates in marketing, financial accounting, managing social and human capital, corporate finance and operations management from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School.
Her passion for outreach is seen in her work as a Pharmacology coach, a Carolina summer program ambassador and her work as a co-founder for the scientific outreach STAR (scientific training and research) program.
