Q & A

Tell us about the issue you want to tackle with your social venture.

The issue we want to tackle with our social venture is domestic violence. We want to create a hidden app that would provide holistic information about intimate partner violence and relationship abuse.

Why did you feel compelled to take on that issue?

We feel compelled to take on this issue because we know that the information that is currently available regarding domestic violence is centered around cis-heterosexual white relationships and we personally understand the need to have culturally cognizant information while also protecting those who are seeking it.

What inspired you to launch your social venture through CUBE at the Campus Y?

We were inspired to launch our social venture through CUBE because of the social justice focus and the mentoring resources we would be able to access. We also knew that this was a venture that the University should invest it because of the prevalence of relationship and sexual violence.

What do you hope to achieve during your CUBE residency?

We hope to achieve at least a beta version of the app that would be able to launch within the University aimed at college students. Our hope is that by launching it at this focus group we can see how efficient an app is to meeting these needs.

What social impact do you hope to have with your venture?

We hope that we will be able to produce an app that empowers people who are experiencing abuse and violence in their intimate relationships. We are hoping to arm them with the language to talk about their experience and thus engage in what support could look like for them. We hope to spark conversation about relevant topics like: What is abuse? or What is gaslighting?

What motivates you to be a student entrepreneur?

What motivates us to become a student entrepreneur is how we are able to take our personal and academic experience and turn it into a societal product that could bring about real and tangible change.
